Rachel Helliwell

Rachel studied the baroque flute with Liza Beznosiuk and recorder with Ross Winters at the Royal College of Music where she was awarded the Richard iii prize for early music. She continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she gained a bursary to study classical flute with Stephen Preston. After her studies she was chosen to tour with the European Union Baroque Orchestra around Europe and the Far East and as a concerto soloist on radio 3. Rachel has performed, recorded, and toured with many of the countries leading baroque ensembles including the English Baroque Soloists, The Academy of Ancient Music, The Sixteen, The Kings Consort to name but a few.

Rachel has been teaching the flute for over 30 years and has a wealth of experience teaching pupils in secondary education from beginner up to ARSM diploma level. She has held the position of flute/recorder tutor at Wycombe Abbey school for over 20 years where she has fostered a passion for her pupils to appreciate and enjoy playing music whether studying for a grade, a performance or just gaining more confidence in themselves and their ability, and has a special interest in helping pupils with learning difficulties.
