A stalwart in the educational realm, he continues to shape young minds at the Emirates International School in the Meadows, where he imparts knowledge and cultivates talents, while concurrently nurturing the UAE National Youth Orchestra as its conductor.
Jonathan has leveraged his multidimensional talent as a music producer for the innovative crossover group, Sonore al andalus. Additionally, his private studio thrives as a nexus for students of theory, composition, and brass instruments, under his expert tutelage.
Over a decade-long journey into musical mentorship has seen Jonathan conduct and guide a plethora of student ensembles, enhancing their performances with his personal compositions. His repertoire extends beyond Dubai, having helmed concerts with the esteemed Baylor Symphony and Waco Symphony in Texas.
Jonathan’s influence extends to local musical ensembles in Dubai, having previously served as the music director of both The Emirates Community Orchestra and the Dubai Chamber Orchestra. He channels his efforts into fostering a love for diverse composers and musical artists among his students, inspiring them to explore the exciting terrain of musical composition.
In his pedagogy, Jonathan highlights the profound connection between composition and a deeper understanding of music theory. He encourages students to fully comprehend their own instruments and the potential they possess, emphasizing music’s innate power to express ideas and challenge character.
Jonathan’s composition ‘Positive spirit,’ based on a poem by HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid al Maktoum, was a notable highlight of his career. Commissioned by the Al Jalila foundation for its fifth anniversary, the piece was performed at the prestigious Dubai opera by The World Doctors Orchestra in march 2018.
Jonathan’s most recent triumph saw him conducting the UAE National Youth Orchestra’s gala performance at the Dubai opera, where his ‘Sonnet’ was premiered, garnering substantial praise.
Jonathan’s musical journey is underpinned by a solid academic foundation. He boasts degrees in trombone performance and composition from Baylor University in Texas and has studied composition under the guidance of renowned composers such as Scott Mcallister, Donald Grantham, Dan Welcher, and the late Daniel Catán. His continuous endeavours in fostering musical development in Dubai further emphasize his commitment to the arts, painting a vivid picture of a maestro dedicated to his craft and students alike.
